QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis (QCF)

This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides Learners with the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in basic life support and the management of anaphylaxis. The content of this qualification has been approved by the Anaphylaxis Campaign.     

Intended Audience

The QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis (QCF) qualification has been designed for those who have a specific responsibility at work, at home or in voluntary and community activities, to provide basic life support and manage anaphylaxis when dealing with an emergency.

Course OverviewQualification Specification

Over a half day period, successful Learners will attain the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations, including: managing a casualty with anaphylaxis, CPR, common anaphylaxis triggers, signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, treatment and more. This qualification can be delivered as a standalone course (minimum of 3 hours 25 minutes) or as a 'bolt on' (1.5 hours excluding breaks) to other first aid qualifications that share the same assessment criteria. Successful Learners will receive a QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Management of Anaphylaxis (QCF) certificate as well a plastic aide memoire, both personalised with their Centre’s details.

Centre Requirements

In order to deliver this qualification, Centres will require a minimum of 1 Trainer and 1 Internal Quality Assurer (these cannot be the same person). Please refer to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications and the above Qualification Specification (pages 12-14) to check the Training/Assessing and Quality Assurance qualifications, and occupational knowledge and competence required for these positions. Centres will also need to have appropriate policies, systems and procedures in place, as well as suitable and adequate venues, equipment and learning resources.
