QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (QCF)
This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides Learners with the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in basic life support and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) usage in emergency situations.
The QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (QCF) qualification has been designed for those who have a specific interest or responsibility at work, or in voluntary and community activities to provide BLS when dealing with an emergency situation which may involve using an AED.
Over a half day period, Learners will develop the knowledge and practical competencies needed to deal with a range of first aid situations and safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Topics covered include: managing an unresponsive casualty, CPR, using an AED on both adults and children, combining AED use with CPR and more. This qualification can be delivered as a standalone course (minimum of 3 hours 40 minutes) or as a 'bolt on' (1.5 hours excluding breaks) to other first aid qualifications that share the same assessment criteria. Successful Learners will receive a QA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (QCF) certificate as well a plastic aide memoire, both personalised with their Centre’s details.
In order to deliver this qualification, Centres will require a minimum of 1 Trainer and 1 Internal Quality Assurer (these cannot be the same person). Please refer to the Assessment Principles for Regulated First Aid Qualifications and the above Qualification Specification (pages 13-15) to check the Training/Assessing and Quality Assurance qualifications, and occupational knowledge and competence required for these positions. Centres will also need to have appropriate policies, systems and procedures in place, as well as suitable and adequate venues, equipment and learning resources.
